I’m lucky enough to have been involved in a number of successful Business ventures across a range of business. I first developed my flair as a ‘launcher’ in my first ever ‘real’ sales job in the events industry. They were a small company but they knew what it took to turn an idea into a profitable business venture, and how to leverage IP to amplify the resu…

Hi,
Here's just a very brief 'note of thanks' for your support on yesterdays ride.
Kyah and I managed to make the whole distance into Wollongong safe and sound and we both had a blast along the way.
Thanks to contributions like yours we raised $355 and I believe there is more to come. Not a bad effort!
As a reminder, your money will be put to use by MS Australia to help current suffers of MS cope with the disease as well as funding research into a cure.
It's been quite an education. I didn'…

The city to gong ride is fast approaching. I know this is a little off topic for a business networking site but I figure that its never been a better time to reach out to your network and ask for a little help.
MS affects people in their prime. Money raised by this event h…

My daughter and I are riding 60 km to Wollongong in November to support MS. Actually she is two, so I'll be doing the riding and she will be saying 'faster daddy.' Please help me to raise funds for a very worthy cause. Maybe, just maybe, it will help me haul a 14 kg toddler (plus my own excess body weight) up some very steep hills....
Did you know?
* The average age of diagnosis of MS is just 30 years
* MS affects three times as many women as men…

One of the members got in touch to get some tips on getting more from the site. As I wrote my reply, I I thought this might be worth sharing here too.

The best advice I can give you is (believe it or not) not to sell your services on the the site. Let people get to know you as a person before they get to know you for your professsional services. By becoming memorable you are front of mind when they inevitably meet one of your potential customers.
Here's so…

We've still got 2 banks (4 desks per bank) available for $1000/month/per bank (that equates to $250/desk/month...obviously).
The price includes the following:
* Electricity and water
* 24/7 secured access (alarm and swipe)
* Video surveillance of the entry
* Phone answering if needed (you pay for your own phone line; there is a free line available here so no cabling costs associated)
* On-demand receptionist (for meeting guests, etc)
* Access to both the boardroom and meeting room (needs to be…

WAIT! I’m not here to evangelise Twitter or to pick news items out of it merely because it seems to be a slow news day. There’s enough of that out there already. The merits of Twitter still need to be demonstrated to me. To me, it seems like the digital equivalent of entering a sports arena full of people all shouting random things at the top of their voice in the hope that someone is listening. This goes against the very basics of marketing - segment then target.
What I’d like to share with yo…

Successful Business owners and senior managers share an ‘efficiency mindset’. In everything they do, they seek the most cost effective method and look to maximize ROI at every stage. Following on from the Global Financial crisis, managers have been put under unprecedented pressure to lean up their business and every cent of every dollar of expenditure has been put under scrutiny. This flurry of cost reduction activity has caused some senior managers to become somewhat over excited. The mindset h…

Whilst this sounds like the start of a really weird Tommy Cooper joke, there’s also serious side to this question and it could be the saving grace for a lot of Australian Businesses as conditions are widely speculated to worsen in the short to mid term.
I’ve had a really interesting and busy few weeks which is why I’ve fallen quiet on the blogging front and I’ll tell you why…
Solentive’s growth has come about largely through network marketing and word of mouth referrals, but giv…

A business is often only considered as good as its processes and procedures but all too often this can get neglected as other seemingly more important tasks compete for our attention.
Interestingly, the very act of documenting our processes is step towards automating some of those business processes and decreasing our reliance on individual staff members. A sound approach towards business process mapping, whilst considering factors such as scalability and repeatability, combined with the right…

It comes in many forms but you may know the old adage.... what goes around comes around .. or some simply say, 'givers gain'.
The law of reciprocity states that those who give with out any expectation will be rewarded to the same value.
The science behind this can be debated no end but my belief is that there is no better way to make a lasting impression on someone, than to give them something without expectation of reward.
So ask yourself? Who have you referred? When you network, do you get y…

SydneyNetworkers.net is starting to gather some momentum.
What started as a hair brained idea is starting to bring in a fresh influx of new people, keen to network and share ideas.
A site like Sydneynetworkers can only work well if we reach a critical mass of people.
So I thought we could have some fun with this. I have two free tickets to the forthcoming
Think and Grow Rich seminar up fro grabs for the 100th member to sign up. Think and Grow rich is a a book that is said to have change…

The GTD principles can and have been applied to software many times over. I found a great little links pages with a wide variety of applications to help people use GTD in their day to day life.

When we are looking at organizational work flow, its important to keep these principles, front of mind. Many people have pointed out to me, that you cannot manage time but you can organise and prioritise your tasks effectively. If time is ou…

How interesting. This week I got an email asking me to sign up for a niche social networking site in Massachusetts.
Whilst this message was clearly off target, it did get the cogs wurring a little. For a start, if they can do it in the USA, why can't we do it here.
And so SydneyNetworkers.net was born...
It less than a week old but its gathering pace nicely with site traffic heading the right direction and a steady stream of new subscribers.
So why go to all the trouble?
Well for a s…
